Whether naughty or nice, kids love to dream about Santa Claus. Delivering gifts to children around the globe in a single night might seem like a tall order for one man, but when children were asked whether a woman could do Santa Claus' job, a passel of adorable British kids had a decidedly ugly answer –– a resounding no.
In a new video released by the #MoreWomen movement, children offered a myriad of depressing reasons why women couldn't keep up with the jolly old Saint Nick. Ranging from "she would get a headache" to "She's not strong enough" to "She would give birth and her baby would crush the gifts," these children's reactions to the idea of a woman Santa Claus aren't very different from the reasons adults cite for barring women from employment opportunities.
If kids can't conceive of a woman fulfilling the role of Santa Claus, their astonishment at the suggestion is a reflection of a cultural construct that still relegates women to the background. Sit down, Santa, it's time for Mrs. Claus to shine.
